Numb is the second book in the Westbrook series, a follow up to Distraction.When Laura reached out to me to read Distraction i was intrigued by the blurb and accepted the free book. I devoured it and couldn't purchase this book quick enough. To say that this story is all consuming i think is an understatement. This series brings me back to high school days and makes me feel giddy with the experience of new young love.
I have fought hard through each of the books in this series because i have fallen madly in love with both Sam and Trevor and I want them both to end up with Laila, but I know thats not realistic lol.
In this installment we hear of Lailas recovery, or attempted recovery after the devastating break up between her and Sam. Trevor has been there for her a lot through the Summer and their relationship has evolved and changed bringing them much closer.

When a new guy shows up and throws a wrench into the mix, Gavin Trotter. This football hottie catches Lailas attention the same night her and Trevor almost end up together.
Vising her brother Kyle at NEU for a Family weekend, Sam gets jealous and goes all Caveman when he sees Laila and Gavin dancing at a frat party.
But love and life is complicated, so now we have a love square ... Trevor ... Gavin ... Sam ... Laila

I love how realistic these books are, I feel like i am experiencing all of these things with the characters.

This is the second book in a four part series, though when I began the series It was only a three part series. The fourth part in the series seems to be part one of a spinoff about Avery. The first three books really do need to be read in order. Thankfully the next book in this series, "Laws of Motion" is out because once more I am dying to find out what happens next. This is a fantastic addition to the series that will leave you scrambling for more. Poor Laila. You wouldn't think to say "poor" anyone who is surrounded by hotties, but in Laila's case it really doesn't help much. She is enmeshed in so much emotion, drama, heartache, and confusion this time around. I have felt so much for her in this volume and wanted to scream at a certain love interest. Two of them actually. At one point I even found myself thinking about Sam's point of view and kind of felt like I was understanding where he was coming from. Then Trevor! Argh! I really wanted to shake the crap out of him a couple of times. I also found myself thinking that I could see where he was coming from right up until that party. WTH? I was shocked. I certainly never expected that. Then along comes Gavin, is he what really needs? He seems great but I keep getting this boggling feeling about him. Maybe that's just my suspicious nature. I know I've been a bit vague in this review, trying not to include spoilers, but I hope I've been intriguing as well. You really should grab this book! This author has a great gift that draws you in and keeps you wanting more. I will be following her closely. Although this is a YA work of fiction you do not need to be a young adult to enjoy it. I was generously given a complimentary copy of this book by the author for an honest review.
I loved this book as much if not more than the first one! The twist and turns of Leila's relationships have driven me crazy. I cannot figure out who she will end up with. Secretly I hope it will be Trevor.
I really love this series! I got a little tired with Laila messing with Gavin, Sam and Trevor. I do understand that she is a teenager, but I just wanted her to choose one guy. The dynamic with Avery and Kyle is interesting, and would like to see that relationship blossom. I really can't wait to read the 3rd book! I want to know who Laila chooses, and if Trevor ends up with someone else. Thanks, Laura!
Wow! I am absolutely hooked on the Westbrook series from the very beginning. I love all the relationship dynamics between, Laila and Sam, Avery and Kyle, Laila and Trevor and now Laila and Gavin. Each time I think I have a good grip on the story, along comes another twist. I read the book all the way through and downloaded the second book immediately. Laura really grabs you and makes you feel deeply for her characters. I laughed and cried multiple times and was just worn out after reading it. I felt like I had been completely immersed in their world. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
After reading this second book of the series, I'm even more torn between Sam and Trevor! I like both equally and I don't know who I want Laila to end up with! Her chemistry with both guys is hot! I just wish she would have been able to kiss Trevor before she saw Sam again. Gavin was a nice distraction for her, but I feel sorry for him. I feel like Laila does need to experience high school without Sam. But I also wonder if the feelings she has for Trevor could outweigh her feelings for Sam! Ms. Clark has your emotions everywhere and leaves you completely undecided about who you want for Laila! Both guys are so awesome and swoon worthy!! I'm anxiously awaiting the next book! This series has you deeply enthralled and I could not put this second book down!
I liked the first book and the choices she was facing seemed realistic. The fact that this second book ends the way it does means she did not really learn or grow at all, she ends up right where she was in the first book and then a third book had to be written to come to the conclusion that was the obvious conclusion from the start of the first book! And there are just so many unrealistic things going on. SPOILER for example She is heartbroken over Sam all summer so much that she doesn't call him but shows up at his college to stay with him and her brother for a three night stay???? I really liked her in the first book but after a whole book and a half dedicated to her heart wrenching feelings for two different guys, she just out of the blue starts dating a third?... It made me start to not like her.
